Steps to Christ Project Revived

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Matthew 28:18-20

This year we will be combining our Steps to Christ Project with our Winter Project. We will be taking copies of Steps to Christ with us when we hand out soup and clothing to the homeless. The Steps to Christ project has thus far been a great success and we need to keep the momentum moving with this one. WATCH THIS SPACE for more information.

Project Keep Warm (Winter Project)

As I am sure you are all aware Winter is fast approaching. Fortunately for us we all have warm homes, beds and food to eat. Some people in Kuils-River are not so fortunate. Many people have to sleep in the streets where we live. Some of you may have been involved in some of our previous initiatives where we took clothing, soup and bread to the homeless in Kuils-River.

We would like to do this again this winter. We need the following:
  • Clothing
  • Blankets
  • Donations for soup ingredients
  • Donations for bread
  • People to assist with making the soup
  • People to assist with distribution
The idea is to maybe go out twice a month into the streets to provide for the needy and to pray for them and with them.
Lets get involved and become relevant in our community.

Above All

Jaclyn (Redding) Umetor Laid to Rest

For those of you who don't know, Jaclyn Redding one of our Church members was laid to rest on Sunday 20 April 2008. Jaclyn was loved by all and was a peoples person who had a great personality.

She will be missed by all and we ask that you pray for her family who are going through a tough time now.

We would like to leave the family with this verse of scripture:

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4

Building A Life

READ: John 20:11-18
To me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. —Philippians 1:21

It was a sunny, sad day in 1982—the day after my husband's funeral. I had gone alone to Bill's grave, hardly knowing why. As with Mary Magdalene who visited Jesus' tomb, the risen Lord was waiting for me. He impressed the words of Philippians 1:21 on my mind, still numbed by Bill's untimely death from cancer.

I wove my prayer around the words of that verse: "Lord, how often I've heard Bill testify, 'For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.' Well, your servant has now died, an untold loss for us, an unspeakable gain for him. I know, Lord, that I too will die someday and enter that gain. But right now I'm still alive. I know I must not live in the past, precious as it is. For to me, to live is You!'"

As I turned to leave, I knew I had prayed a foundational prayer. Much recovery and rebuilding lay before me, but beneath me was the only firm foundation on which to build—Jesus Christ.

Has a loved one's death or the fear of your own death tested your foundation? Let Paul's words, written in the face of death, and Jesus' words to Mary encourage you to offer a foundational prayer of your own. Then begin to rebuild your life on the risen Christ!
Joanie Yoder

It matters not how dark the way,
How thick the clouds from day to day,
God will direct in all we do
If we take time to pray it through. —Mead

Life's best outlook is a prayerful uplook!
